Occupy Wall Street

The first Occupy Wall Street protesters arrived at Zuccotti Park on September 17. By October, the 99% and their supporters were flocking to encampments in US cities and around the world. The movement sparked debate across the political and economic spectrum … but it was another story that topped our news list for 2011. See it now.

Kim Kardashian

After a whirlwind romance, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were engaged in May. Their August wedding was a multi-million dollar televised spectacle, but the show was still in re-runs when Kim announced their separation 72 days later. Midnight in Paris

Woody Allen is practically synonymous with New York, but July’s Midnight in Paris became his highest grossing movie to date. Super Bowl

More than 100,000 fans gathered at Cowboys Stadium on February 6 to watch Pittsburgh take on Green Bay in Superbowl XLV. Find out which event won that title … by a nose!

Planking

Planking has been popular since 2008, but it gained widespread attention in 2011 due in part to controversy. It wasn’t our #1 meme, though. See the winner now!

In the US, a polarized nation grappled with the debt ceiling debate and geared up for the 2012 presidential election. But there were celebrations, too. In April, the world watched as Prince William and Kate Middleton were married in Westminster Abbey.
